The past several years have seen the trend of cat cafes growing across the entire world, with these feline-specific spaces finding a home in every major city.

The latest cafe that looks to join the feline fun is Café Chato, which looks to build a home in the heart of Verdun in Montreal and open before the end of Spring 2018. Café Chato would be a cat lover’s haven, hosting several free-living cats at a time, all of whom will come from animal shelters and be up for adoption.

In addition to the feline occupants, visitors can enjoy freshly made drinks, pastries, and bites, made from locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. Vegetarian and vegan options will also be available.

The cat cafe will also include a boutique section selling all kinds of cat-related merchandise.

Chato Cafe is located on Verdun Street at the corner of 3rd Avenue and they’re currently in the midst of completing renovations.

Right now, the cafe is in the midst of crowdfunding for the final phase of renovations. Management has set a goal of $8000 to be raised, which will go towards shelters, beds, and basic necessities for the cats. At this point, they’ve raised nearly 50% of their goal with $3,965 and 17 days left in the fundraiser.

To help raise money, Cafe Chato will be hosting a cat-inspired artisan market. Visitors can find toys, paintings, accessories, and all things cat-related, with proceeds going towards the crowdfunding campaign.

The market will take place on Sunday, April 22 from 10 am to 5 pm. More information on specific vendors will be released on the Facebook page closer to the date.
