Dubai approves new alcohol exception for tourists

Jul 20 2019, 2:12 am

Tourists visiting Dubai will now be able to purchase alcohol from stores.

According to Gulf News, this is thanks to new 30-day licences that will be made available to visitors.

Before this new regulation, visitors were only allowed to buy and consume alcohol at licensed venues such as bars, restaurants, and clubs.

Now, non-Muslim tourists over the age of 21 will be permitted to buy alcohol from African and Eastern or Mercantile and Marketing International (MMI) liquor stores in the city.

To obtain a licence, tourists must collect an application form from an MMI store with their passport and fill out documentation confirming you are a tourist.

No fee is required and once a licence is issued, visitors will be able to purchase liquor from designated stores.
