Where is it?

The Glacier Skywalk is located in the Sunwapta Valley above the Columbia Icefields. Situated in the very heart of the Rocky Mountains, the trip out to the Skywalk along the Icefields Parkway is an adventure in itself.

How do you get there?

The Skywalk is one hour south of Jasper and 2.5 hours north of Banff, making it roughly 3.5 to 4 hours away from Calgary.

The best way to get there is to take Highway 1 west towards Banff, and then getting onto Highway 93 N (the infamous Icefields Parkway) to the parking lot at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre.

Tours up to the Skywalk depart every 15 to 30 minutes from the centre.

If you don’t have a car, you can also look into getting a ride from through the Brewery Sightseeing Tours starting at $246.

What’s there?

The picturesque Skywalk isn’t the only things to check out while you’re there, though it may make for the best Instagram shot.

Once on the tour, you’ll be able to check out informative audio guides of the area, have dinner right by the Athabasca Glacier at the Altitude Restaurant, and explore the glaciers scattered throughout the Rockies.

It is recommended to visit before 1 pm or after 3 pm to avoid the busiest hours, and if you arrive in the morning you’ll have the chance to go on a small-group tour to learn a bit more from the interpretive guides.

Access to the Skywalk costs $31 for adults if booked in advance, or $34 at the gate. Teen and child discounts are also available.
