Written for Daily Hive by Penny Green, CEO of The Yield Growth Corp. Penny will be speaking about cannabis at TEDxVancouver.

On October 17, 2018, cannabis is going to be recreationally legal in Canada, making us the first G7 country to do so, and frankly – it’s about time.

Our ancestors were ahead of us on this one, cannabis was actually cultivated by humans as far back as 12,000 years ago, making it one of humanity’s oldest crops. The human-cannabis relationship has deep roots.

And that is no surprise. This plant can make you healthier, sexier and richer.

Let me explain.

You’ve probably heard about how cannabis can be used as a medicine, treating all kinds of ailments, from epilepsy to nausea caused by chemotherapy. And seniors are using it to improve their quality of life, using topicals to help with arthritis and inflammation.

But it can be far from just a personal experience, cannabis affects how we interact with one another by creating a greater sense of empathy. It can also provide us with a higher level of sensitivity so that the food we eat is tastier and the sex we have is better.

On the business side, this is an incredible, once-in-a-generation opportunity to make a fortune and change the world. Canada is primed to set the example for other countries as they eventually follow suit and embrace cannabis legalization.

An important thing to remember is that this isn’t about “getting high.” That is far from the only way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis. Cannabis is a versatile product that can be used in creams, makeup, shampoos, teas, drinks, and more.

With that in mind, when you are looking for companies to invest in the industry look for those that are expanding internationally, have a focus on CBD, and are developing edible or topical brands and products.

I recognized this early and founded a company called The Yield Growth Corporation, which is launching a cannabis-infused makeup and therapeutics brand called Urban Juve.

The public pressure in the last 15 years for legalization has been particularly strong. If you are opposed, I encourage you to open your mind to it. This natural plant is going to be responsible for an economic and wellness resurgence in every way.

And when you understand how cannabis can make you richer, healthier, and sexier, you may thank me.
