You'll need to complete training if you want to work in cannabis retail in Ontario

Feb 7 2019, 11:25 pm

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has officially selected a retail training program for front line budtenders and front-line staff of the provinces coming cannabis storefronts.

Called CannSell, the program was developed through the partnership between Lift & Co. and MADD Canada. Its goal, according to a release from the AGCO, is to provide employees of all privately run cannabis retail stores the “knowledge they will need to sell cannabis responsibly and in compliance with Ontario law.”

The training will also provide basic knowledge about cannabis to ensure those who are selling it understand its various forms, effects and consequences of use.

CannSell will be available to interested individuals as of February 25, 2019. The training program will take approximately four hours to complete and will be delivered as an online program.

There is currently no cost listed on the CannSell website. Interested applicants can sign up for a waiting list to receive more information. Grow reached out to Lift for comment but did not hear back by time of publication.

Lift & Co. creates cannabis related content and most recently began serving as a training provider in the cannabis retail space. The company says it has created similar training programs for use in other provinces, including Nova Scotia and PEI.
