Prepare for new delays with Yellowhead Trail construction changes soon

The City of Edmonton is giving motorists a heads up about construction changes on the way for Yellowhead Trail.
The City says the conversion of the Yellowhead Trail is continuing, with new traffic changes being implemented on June 21 to accommodate ongoing work.
Current lane restrictions between St. Albert Trail and 121 St. will extend east, and Yellowhead Trail will operate with two lanes in each direction from St. Albert Trail to 97 St. This lane configuration will remain in place until construction is complete in 2027.
These new restrictions are in addition to the single-lane traffic on 121st Street between Yellowhead Trail and 121st Avenue that began on June 16. These lane reductions change the left-turning lane (northbound-to-westbound and westbound-to-southbound) from two to one lane at the Yellowhead Trail and 121 Street intersection. These left turn lane restrictions are expected to be in place for eight weeks.
To ensure the safety of all road users and construction crews, the 50 km/h speed limit continues to be enforced in construction zones.

Motorists should expect continued delays on St. Albert Trail, 127 St., 121 St., 107 St. and 97 St. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
The Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion is a transformational project upgrading Yellowhead Trail to improve the safety, operational capacity and level of service for this key inter-city, inter-regional and inter-provincial goods movement corridor.
“The City of Edmonton appreciates your patience and cooperation during this major infrastructure project,” the news release added.
