Vehicles stuck after drivers try to park on Lake Louise promenade

This past weekend, two vehicles got stuck and one driver was ticketed after trying to park on the pedestrian-only promenade along the Lake Louise lakeshore.
Banff National Park shared photos of the incident on its Facebook page yesterday.
Park Wardens and the RCMP were called to two separate incidents where vehicles drove onto the pedestrian-only promenade at the Lake Louise lakeshore.
The park stated that both vehicles got stuck in deep snow on the pedestrian route toward the lake. One driver received an $81 violation ticket for illegally parking on a sidewalk, and the other was issued a warning.
“In both cases, the drivers incurred substantial towing and recovery costs as a direct result of their actions. While the ticket and warning may appear minimal, the associated towing expenses were considerable and represented significant consequences. One of the vehicles required specialized equipment to be removed,” the park added.
Not only can the sight of a vehicle be an eyesore, but vehicles in unauthorized areas can also interfere with snow removal, restrict emergency access, and create safety hazards for pedestrians.

While winter parking demand (November–April) at Lake Louise is generally lower than in summer, weekends and holidays can still be busy. These incidents occurred at a time of day when winter parking capacity was not a factor; however, planning ahead and using designated parking and transit options remains important—especially during peak visitation. Visitors are encouraged to have a backup plan in every season.
While we are on the topic of parking, fees to park at Lake Louise will see an increase this year, too.
