The University of Alberta suspended all in-person classes on Friday amid ongoing consultations with public health officials.

The university campus and student residences remain open to students and staff even though classes are cancelled.

Midterm exams scheduled for the weekend are also cancelled.

“The health and safety of our university community is our top priority,” the school said in a statement. “Thank you for your patience and support as we assess the situation.”

The university has not said when classes will resume but is committed to providing an update no later than Sunday, March 15.

Alberta health officials are expected to give the next update on COVID-19 in the province Friday at 3:30 pm.
