The holiday season is ready to commence in Edmonton!

On November 15, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald will host their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in support of the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton.

For over 100 years, the Chateau on the River was a place for the community to celebrate the Christmas season. This year, the celebrations will also feature the hotel’s largest gingerbread house yet, standing approximately 20 feet high and 18 feet wide in the hotel lobby.

The massive delicious construction was created by the hotel’s engineering and culinary teams over a total of 650 hours. It’s made up of over 200 kg of brown sugar, 500 kg of flour, over 3100 eggs, and more.

Along with cookies, hot chocolate, and performances by the local Hilwie Hamdon School, the Tree Lighting Ceremony will be dedicated to Second Chance Animal Rescue, an animal rescue organization, and will feature dogs in need of a home.

This is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.
