It’s ski season, Alberta.
While some Albertans may not be all too enthused about just how snowy it can get out here (especially when that snow comes down in October, or even September) there is a silver lining to living in a place where it’s parka season nine months of the year.
Our ski hills open nice and early.
A few have already opened their doors to skiers and snowboarders, while others have tentative opening dates set for December.
Many of the open hills only have a handful of runs operational, and we’ve updated this list as of November 18.
Here’s the current status of nine of Alberta’s ski hills:
WinSport Calgary
WinSport is expected to open for the season on November 27.

Nakiska Ski Resort
Nakiska has opened for preview weekends before their official opening on November 27.

Mt. Norquay Resort
Mt. Norquay is officially open for the season! The mountaintop currently has 2/6 lifts open and 3/60 runs.

Sunshine Village
Banff Sunshine Village opened on November 10, and has 9 of 12 lifts open.

Castle Mountain Resort
Castle Mountain Resort plans to open for the season on December 4.

Lake Louise
Lake Louise is officially open for the 2019/2020 ski season, with 10/10 lifts and 90/160 runs currently open.

Red Deer’s Canyon Ski Resort is now open for the season.

Hidden Valley Ski Resort
Hidden Valley usually opens a little later than the rest of the resorts, with a tentative opening date set for December 12.
