5 towns and cities near Edmonton we'd like to move to in 2026

While Edmonton is great, there are a few spots close to the city we would definitely consider making a move to. The Capital region is full of places that we think are great places to visit and wouldn’t mind calling home.
From communities that make the most of their natural landscape to picture-perfect town centres, here are five towns and cities near Edmonton we would move to in 2026.
Devon

If you’re a fan of the outdoors, then Devon is the place to be. Not only does it have a stunning riverside beach and a wicked campground, but it is also connected to the North Saskatchewan River Valley system. If you’re feeling ambitious, you could bike into Edmonton if you wanted to. Or, if that’s not your speed, go for a float. It’s gorgeous on this side of the river. In addition, Devon is a charming and friendly community full of young families, which gives it a lot of vibrancy.
Ardrossan

While a move to Sherwood Park seems like the obvious choice, just east of it is another community that’s caught our attention (thanks, in part, to some clever marketing hailing it as the “kingdom”). Ardrossan may require a car for now, but with steady development underway and walkability a priority, we think this community will grow into somewhere people will be glad they made the move in 2026.
St. Albert

With plenty of parks and trails, a bustling downtown, and an abundance of great local shops and restaurants, St. Albert has a nice, refined feel where everything seems to just run smoothly. It’s full of mature trees and picture-perfect urban landscaping, and we wouldn’t mind calling this idyllic spot near Edmonton home. Plus, there’s an awesome farmers market, which doesn’t hurt.
Spruce Grove

From the way Central Park lights up with thousands of Christmas lights in the wintertime to the easy access to parks, trails, and more in the summer, Spruce Grove is a bustling community seeing plenty of development right now. Similar to Ardrossan, it’s a community we think is worth budding into in 2026. And if you need proof, the numbers speak for themselves: Spruce Grove is leading the Edmonton region in population growth, with its population rising more than 14 per cent over the past five years.
Beaumont

This city just southeast of Edmonton has a population of about 25,000 and a long history of French settlement (even its street names are en français). Beaumont has a charming downtown core, and it’s such a short drive to Edmonton that you don’t miss out on any of the city amenities while still getting to enjoy the everyday lifestyle of a quaint, charming small community.
