Edmonton could be in for one of its biggest football crowds in nearly a decade.
The Edmonton Elks are nearing 32,000 tickets sold for Saturday’s West Final against the BC Lions at Commonwealth Stadium, putting the team within striking distance of a milestone it hasn’t reached in more than nine years.
Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 reported Thursday morning that ticket sales were approaching the 32,000 mark, adding that there is a “very good chance” Edmonton could draw 40,000 fans for the first time since August 25, 2017.
The Elks announced Tuesday that they had already surpassed 30,000 tickets sold, encouraging fans to get their seats before the team’s biggest game of the season. This announcement came just days after the Elks told Offside that this year’s West Final is expected to be their biggest draw yet.
Saturday’s matchup is already tracking to be the highest-attended Elks home game of the 2026 season. The previous attendance leaders were the August matchup against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, which attracted 31,757 fans, and September’s Labour Day Rematch against the Calgary Stampeders, which drew 31,531.
The Elks finished the regular season with a 13-5 record, claiming first place in the West Division. This will be the franchise’s first playoff game since 2019 and its first West Final at Commonwealth Stadium since 2015, when Edmonton hosted the Calgary Stampeders.
Saturday’s game will be the final CFL contest of the season at Commonwealth Stadium, regardless of the outcome. The winner will advance to the 113th Grey Cup, which will be held at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Nov. 15.
Edmonton split its regular-season series with BC, losing 36-24 on the road in June before earning a 19-17 victory at Commonwealth in July.
The Lions have been one of the CFL’s hottest teams down the stretch, winning nine of their last 12 regular-season games after beginning the year 1-5. They punched their ticket to the West Final with a 33-26 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the West Semi-Final on Halloween.
With a trip to the Grey Cup on the line, the Elks will be hoping for their biggest crowd at Commonwealth Stadium this year as they look to keep their season alive.
