CFL playoff fever has hit the Alberta capital.
The Edmonton Elks are set to host the BC Lions in the West Final at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, and there is a buzz around the city. This will be the team’s first playoff game since 2019 and the first Elks playoff game hosted at Commonwealth since the 2015 West Final against the Calgary Stampeders.
Expectations are high for Edmonton after they bulldozed their way through the 2026 regular season with a 13-5 record to finish atop the West Division. Tickets are already flying off the shelves, as the Elks have told Offside that this year’s West Final is tracking to have the highest attendance at Commonwealth Stadium of the season.
Ticket sales are already outpacing the previous two highest-selling games, which saw a crowd of 31,757 fans pack into the stadium to see the Saskatchewan Roughriders in August and another 31,531 to see Edmonton take on the Stampeders in September’s Labour Day Rematch.
High stakes
This will be the final CFL game of the season at Commonwealth Stadium regardless of Saturday’s results. The winner will move on to the 113th Grey Cup, which is set to be hosted at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Nov. 15.
That means that the West Final will be the last chance for fans to root for the Elks in Edmonton this season. The push to fill the stadium is already well underway, as the organization announced over the weekend that the upper bowl of the stadium has been opened to meet increased ticket demand.
This will be the third time this season that the Elks have opened up the upper bowl.

Edmonton split the season series against the Lions, losing the first matchup 36-24 in BC back in June, but rebounding to defeat them 19-17 at Commonwealth in July. The Lions surged throughout the second half of the season, winning nine of their last 12 games to turn a 1-5 record into a 1o-8 record to qualify for the playoffs.
BC defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 33-26 in the West Semi-Final on Halloween to book this date with the Elks.
