Rogers Place will surely be packed for this weekend’s PWHL game in Edmonton, but those wanting to snatch last-minute tickets will have to pay up.

The Ottawa Charge and Toronto Sceptres are set to take to the ice in the Alberta capital on Sunday in what should come close to a sold-out crowd of over 18,000 hockey fans. This is the first time that the PWHL has played a game in Edmonton, and it may be a test to see if the city can support a future expansion team.

This game was announced in November, and retail tickets have officially sold out, according to Ticketmaster. The only way to buy tickets now is through the resale market, which has marked up the prices.

As of Wednesday morning, the cheapest tickets available are running for $93.20 for nosebleed seats located at the top of Roger Place’s upper bowl.

This is in stark contrast to what tickets were going for last month. In December, fans could get their hands on tickets that were as cheap as $45. Even the highest-priced tickets back then would be cheaper as they ran for $85.

Now that the rink is sold out and people are starting to get an idea of how popular the event will be in the city, it seems like resellers are trying to make a quick buck on the excitement surrounding the game.

It will be a weekend to remember for hockey fans as the game will feature a homecoming for a couple of Ottawa Edmonton-born players like Danielle Serdachney and Stephanie Markowski. Charge goaltender Emerance Maschmayer is also from the area, hailing from nearby Bruderheim.

The Charge will be hosting an open practice at Rogers Place that fans are free to attend. The game will then go on Sunday at 2 pm MT.
