This popular plant-based cafe in Edmonton is closing its doors sooner than anticipated

The Moth Cafe in Edmonton just made a recent announcement with an unfortunate update on the subject of its upcoming closure.

If you aren’t already familiar, this cafe has been a staple in downtown Edmonton for many years, known for exclusively serving plant-based dishes. Early this year, The Moth Cafe had initially put out a statement about how it would be closing its doors at the end of November after nine years of business.

“Our planned closing date is the end of November 2026,” read The Moth Cafe team on Instagram earlier this year. “It’s also possible that we may need to close sooner should our roof become more compromised or if our 30+ year old rooftop heater stops working. When we know more, we promise to share updates openly and with care.”

This past August, the team posted another update with some unfortunate news.

According to the team, after trying to keep it open and attempting to pass the cafe on, their efforts were unsuccessful. In addition to that, with all the rain this past summer, the roof is “beyond compromised.”

Sept. 13, 2026, will be the day The Moth Cafe permanently closes. Until then, you’re still able to get your favourite plant-based eats in the city.

“Truly grateful for everything,” the team finishes on Instagram.
