Edmonton Fire and Rescue says that if you see an orange flickering light or flares over the next two days near Strathcona, there is no cause for concern — or to call 9-1-1.

Officials say that flaring from Strathcona Refinery is the cause of the light, which will continue for the next two days.

“We are receiving multiple calls regarding a potential fire event in the Strathcona area. We have determined this to be the flaring from the Strathcona Refinery which will continue for the next 48 [hours]. Thank you for your diligent reporting, but this is not a fire event” said Edmonton Fire and Rescue on Twitter.

The Strathcona Refinery is an oil refinery located in Strathcona County, which provides oil products like gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel, and more.
