Snow risk targets parts of Alberta as temperatures start to dip

It may almost be fall in Alberta, and if you are hoping to see gorgeous foliage in some parts of the province, be mindful that certain areas may see snow soon.

Temperatures are starting to drop as the days grow shorter and we move towards and into the early days of fall in the province, with some mountainous areas running the risk of seeing snow in the coming days.

Daily Hive chatted with Christy Climenhaga, a scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), regarding what areas may see snow.

Climenhaga says that some of the models were predicting some really cold temperatures; however, they have started to trend a little bit warmer for the time being. There’s a chance, through this weekend, of some mountain regions seeing shower weather on Sunday into the overnight hours.

“We will have to see how that times up with the temperatures. Temperatures are cooling down through the weekend overnight periods, and if that  does time out a little bit more into the overnight where that coldest of the weather is, maybe you could see something.”

The areas currently at the greatest risk of seeing some snow appear are the Icefields Parkway area, particularly towards the Elbow, and higher elevations.

Looking at the forecast for some of the mountainous towns in Alberta, temperatures start to dip later this weekend with showers moving through.

Some spots, like Jasper, are seeing a real cool-down into the middle of next week as well, with showers in the cards.
