Rounds of snow coming for parts of Alberta while heat looms in the forecast

It’s going to be a snow-filled next few days for some parts of Alberta, while a blast of heat is in the forecast for others.

Looking at the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Significant Weather Outlook, portions of Alberta are at risk of seeing some snow starting on Tuesday, March 17.

Tomorrow is also set to be the most active day out of the outlook period, with portions of southern Alberta set to see wind gusts anywhere from 80 to 100 kilometres per hour.

Sections of northern Alberta may see ice accumulation due to freezing rain, while the Icefields Parkway through to north of Jasper National Park is being targeted by 10 to 15 centimetres of snow.

Turning to Wednesday, March 18, the outlook noted a stretch of northern Alberta from the B.C. border right to the Saskatchewan border may see ice due to freezing rain. Wind gusts will remain present for southern Alberta, topping out at 100 kilometres per hour, and the Icefields Parkway through to north of Jasper National Park is being targeted by 10 to 15 centimetres of snow.

Grabbing a look at the major city centres in Alberta, the risk of snow is only present for today in Edmonton, before a stretch of above-average daytime highs and the chance of showers on and off during the work week.

The seven-day forecast for Calgary is even grander, with plenty of sunshine and numerous days in the teens for highs.
