The Vegas Golden Knights may have dodged a bullet heading into Game 3 versus the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
A very unusual play took place in overtime last night between the Oilers and Golden Knights. Forward Nicolas Roy delivered a vicious cross-check to the face of Trent Frederic. The Oilers winger went down in a heap, and the referees chose to give Roy a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

The next morning, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Roy would have a hearing, indicating that a suspension was upcoming. That didn’t wind up being the case, however, as they instead chose to fine him $7,812.50.

The cross-check from Roy appeared to be very costly in real time, as it gave the Oilers a five-minute power play in overtime. The Golden Knights were able to kill it off, though the massive kill was all for nothing, as Leon Draisaitl scored the game winner a short time later.
That game winner came with major controversy, however, as the refs missed what should have been a tripping penalty on Viktor Arvidsson just moments before.
Prior to the Oilers' game winning goal Arvidsson sent McNabb into the boards, and McNabb left the game with an apparent injury.

The Golden Knights were rightfully furious afterward, with Mark Stone referring to it as a “dirty play.”
Despite their anger over the play, however, it was also announced that Arvidsson won’t face any supplemental discipline.

While many will debate whether or not the NHL made the right calls in these two decisions, it will certainly add more fuel to the fire in what is already an intense rivalry between these two teams.
Fans should expect a fiery Game 3 between these two Western Conference heavyweights on Saturday night.
