Everything to know about Edmonton's Rockin’ Thunder festival this weekend

The first Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival is coming to Edmonton this weekend, and we’ve got the lowdown on everything you need to know about the epic show.
The all-ages, open-air festival will take over the Exhibition Lands Racetrack from July 11 to 12, and features a lineup of rock legends and alt-rock icons.
General admission tickets are still available online for single days or the entire weekend, with several ticketing options to choose from.

This year’s Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival begins on Friday, July 11, with a stacked lineup including:
- Def Leppard
- Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
- Bret Michaels
- Toque
- Queensrÿche
The lineup for Saturday, July 12, also features some music megastars, including:
- Weezer
- Stone Temple Pilots
- Sam Roberts Band
- The Trews
- Default
Gates to the festival open at 1 p.m. and the first act of each day will take the stage at 2:30 p.m..
Headliners are slated to perform starting at 9 p.m., and host Rick Campanelli will be your guide on the mainstage.

Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival
Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival has also introduced the YEG Rocks! stage to showcase Edmonton’s talented rock scene. Check out local luminaries like Roll the Bones, Serenadia, Stonegate, and Whale and the Wolf in between the mainstage acts. All YEG Rocks! performances are included with your ticket.
While you’re dancing and singing along to hits like “Buddy Holly” and “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” it’s important to stay hydrated and nourished. That’s why we’re excited to hear there will be several food vendors on site as well as bars serving up beer, cocktails, soda, and water.

Weezer/Rockin’ Thunder Music Festival
Rockin’ Thunder has posted its bag policy online, stating that “in an effort to enhance security measures, they are enforcing a clear bag policy at the festival.”
Concertgoers are allowed to bring clear plastic bags no larger than 14″ x 14″, a standard one-gallon disposable freezer bag, and small clutches no bigger than 6″ by 9″. However, backpacks, large purses, camera bags, and coolers are not approved.
A full list of allowed and prohibited items can also be found online, along with a festival map and instructions for commuting and parking. Guests can also sign up for text alerts to receive announcements, updates, and information directly to their phone during the festival.
