Rivalry renewed: Canada facing USA in men's soccer later this year
The Canadian Men’s National Team will reacquaint itself with one of its fiercest rivals soon.
Canada and the United States managed to avoid playing each other through the 2026 FIFA World Cup earlier this year, but the two nations will renew their rivalry with an international match scheduled for this October.
The Canadians will travel to St. Paul, Minnesota on Oct. 6 to take on the Americans at Allianz Field. This will be the first time these two countries have played against each other since March 2025.
“The rivalry with the United States brings out the best in this group,” said Canada head coach Jesse Marsch in a release. “We’ve had success in our last two meetings with them, and that only raises the standard for what we expect from ourselves.
“It’s another meaningful test as we build toward what’s next for this team.”

Both countries are coming off pretty decent showings at the FIFA World Cup. Canada enjoyed their best-ever result at the tournament, advancing to the Round of 16 before bowing out to Morocco. The United States also found a way into the Round of 16, but lost to Belgium.
This is set to be the 43rd match between the Canadian and U.S. national men’s programs since the rivalry began in 1925. Historically, the Americans hold the edge, winning 17 of those matches while Canada has come up victorious 13 times. The two nations have played to a draw a total of 12 times.
However, it has been Canada that has had the edge recently, defeating the U.S. in each of their last two matches against each other.
The Canadians will have a bit of a warm-up to this match as they are set to face Chile in Toronto on Sept. 26 and Peru in Montreal on Oct. 3. The match against the United States will close out the September-October 2026 window for the Canadian men.
