An Edmonton rec centre pool is about to close for four months

A rec centre pool in northeast Edmonton is about to close for four months as work gets underway to update the change rooms and replace its waterslide.

The aquatic centre at Clareview Community Recreation Centre will be closed from Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, to Feb. 28, 2027, with the pool expected to reopen on Monday, March 1.

During the shutdown, the City says crews will replace the centre’s large purple waterslide, replace lockers in the change rooms, and add privacy stalls to the men’s aquatic change room.

The Clareview Community Recreation Centre opened in 2014 at a cost of $105 million.

The temporary closure means Edmontonians will have even fewer options for an indoor swim, with the Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre still closed following significant flood damage from the July 10 storm. However, the City says remediation work there is currently projected to be completed by mid- to late fall.

Daily Hive reached out to the City of Edmonton for more information about the renovations and waterslide replacement. The City said it is finalizing additional information and expects it to be available early next week.
