Two Alberta spots added to prestigious cocktail bar guide
Straight off the back of some major recognition for Alberta’s bar scene, two cocktail bars have just been recognized by an extremely prestigious guide for the very first time.
The Pinnacle Guide is a world-renowned guide of the world’s best cocktail bars, which operates on a one-, two-, and three-pin recognition system. One pin is for “excellent” establishments, two pins are “outstanding,” and three pins are “exceptional.”
Inclusion in the guide includes a “rigorous” self-application process followed by anonymous in-bar reviews, and each bar is assessed on eight areas of excellence.
While several spots in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal have been included in the guide, Alberta is finally getting the fanfare it deserves.

The first of the Alberta watering holes to make the guide is Calgary’s Shelter, which received one pin. The atmospheric space, tucked below Hotel Arts, offers a unique drinks menu of cocktails built around the science of active aroma compounds.
“Everything was served with a perfect explanation as to what was being given, and it feels like they truly enjoy their guests — and want them to share in their passion,” the anonymous reviewer said.

Banff’s Rundle Bar was the second Alberta spot to be recognized, also receiving one pin. Located in what was once the Fairmont Banff Springs’ lobby, the stunning two-storey bar not only offers a fantastic cocktail program, but also has some of the most stunning mountain views around.
“It was a fabulous experience overall. Cocktails, environment, service were all perfectly on point. I would certainly return the next time I am in Banff,” the anonymous reviewer said.
So far, these are the only two Alberta spots featuring in the guide, but we certainly don’t think they will be the last.
