Here's when Parks Canada is opening Alberta 2021 camping reservations

As recommended by health officials, if you choose to participate in events outside of your home, please adhere to COVID-19 health and safety measures, including proper physical distancing, mask-wearing, and frequent handwashing. If you are sick, please stay home.

Albertans love to be outdoors, especially when it involves sleeping under the stars, cooking over a campfire, and taking a dip in scenic lakes.

If last summer is any indication, campsites are going to fill up quickly this year, so be sure to mark your calendar for April 9 – that’s the day Parks Canada will open camping reservations in Alberta for the season.

Campgrounds are located in 38 national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas across the country, with six of these located in Alberta.

While bookings can typically be made in January for the current year’s camping season, Parks Canada delayed the opening of reservations for trips between May 2021 and March 2022. This was done to give campers more time to consider the latest COVID-19 measures, and to help reduce the need for cancellations.

Reservations open up on a rolling schedule beginning in April, based on the location of the campground and whether you’re booking a basic campsite, roofed accommodation, or a remote backcountry experience.

Check the Government of Canada’s website to view a complete list of Parks Canada campgrounds and to learn when bookings for each site open.

Banff & Lake Louise Tourism noted on Instagram that they are currently welcoming visitors travelling from within Canada.

“We just ask that you check your own provincial travel restrictions and guidelines,” said the tourism organization.

“As well as the protocols and restrictions through the Government of Alberta.”

Campers should keep current COVID-19 restrictions in mind, and act on the advice of their local government when making plans.

Visitors can book Alberta sites starting at 8 am on April 9 by calling 1-877-RESERVE (7373783) or through the Parks Canada online booking system. 

Parks Canada said in a Facebook post that demand will be high, so make sure to plan ahead and be flexible.

Make your camping reservations as soon as possible (after April 9), and start planning those summer adventures.
