One specific Edmonton Oilers watch party will be closed for Game 1 against Stars

Edmonton Oilers fans will have one less spot to cheer on their team during tonight’s series opener against the Dallas Stars.

Outdoor playoff watch parties have become a staple in the Alberta capital over the past couple of years. The establishment of the “Moss Pit” in the ICE District Plaza, as well as the sprawling FanPark directly to the east of Rogers Place, has created an exceptional environment for fans to cheer on the Oilers.

Demand was so big for these areas that a third outdoor watch party was added just north of the FanPark for this year’s playoff run. Things seem to have been a massive hit with the Oilers faithful, but that brand-new North FanPark is not going to be open for fans during Game 1 of the Western Conference Final tonight.

Ice District announced this on social media earlier today, along with details on the other watch parties.

No reason was given for the closure, but fans shouldn’t worry all that much, as there are still plenty of other options available near Rogers Place tonight.

The “Moss Pit” and regular FanPark will be opening up to the public exactly an hour before puck drop at 5 p.m. MDT. Fans can also get into the arena tonight to watch Game 1 on the Rogers Place jumbotron for tickets that are going for just $10 apiece.
