Connor McDavid wasn’t the only celebrity perusing the halls of Madison Square Garden over the weekend.
The Edmonton Oilers were at MSG to play the New York Rangers on Sunday night, and the training staff had a chance meeting with one of the world’s biggest musical acts before the game. While preparing equipment for Oilers players, they ran into Harry Styles, who was working out in the depths of the arena.
Sportsnet’s Gene Principe recounted the story on the broadcast, saying that the Oilers training staff asked if it was okay to put their equipment away while Styles did his workout. The 32-year-old pop star said it was fine and obliged to take a selfie with the group as well.
An encounter of that kind of star power can’t go unnoticed, so the photo was shared through the official Oilers social media channels.

Among the Oilers staff seen with Styles are head equipment manager Jeff Lang, assistant equipment manager Brad Harrison, massage therapist Stephen Lines, assistant equipment manager Rogan Dean, and consulting chiropractor Jeff Cubos.
These people deal with some of the best hockey players on the planet, but it’s still quite a shock when they come into contact with celebrities from other parts of the entertainment world. Though McDavid may be popular, he doesn’t quite have the international appeal that a musician like Styles has.
Of course, with Principe recounting the story, he had to end it off with a pun.
“He continued to work out, so obviously Jeff and company weren’t cramping his ‘Styles,'” Principe said.

Things got even better for the Oilers, as they walked away from the world’s most famous arena with a 4-1 victory over the Rangers. That improved their record to an incredible 11-2-2 on the season, and they swept their annual visit through New York City as they shut out the New York Islanders 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Though Styles was born in the U.K., he has a special connection to NYC. He recently ended a streak of 30 shows in 30 days at MSG, which wrapped up on Halloween over the weekend. The accomplishment earned him a banner in the rafters of the arena.
