15 Edmonton Oilers players have no-move or no-trade clauses

The Edmonton Oilers are chock-full of players with trade protection.

No-movement clauses and no-trade clauses used to be reserved for elite players, but the net has widened around the NHL.

Players like them, because it gives them security. But for teams, it can make roster construction a living nightmare.

The Oilers have become notorious for their willingness to hand out no-trade and no-movement clauses in recent years, as a whopping 15 current Oilers players currently have trade protection in their contracts.

1. Connor McDavid

Age: 29
2025-26 stats: 48 G, 90 A, 138 PTS, 82 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause

Connor McDavid has complete control of where he will play over the course of his current two-year contract with a full no-movement clause that runs through the 2027-28 season.

2. Leon Draisaitl

Age: 30
2025-26 stats: 35 G, 62A, 97 PTS, 65 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause

Leon Draisaitl can spend his entire career in Edmonton if he wants to, with a full no-movement clause through the 2032-2033 season.

3. Zach Hyman

Age: 34
2025-26 stats: 31 G, 21A, 52 PTS, 58 GP
Trade protection: Modified no-trade clause

Zach Hyman currently has an eight-team trade list as part of his modified no-trade clause going into the season. That list will change to a 10-team trade list starting in the 2027-28 season, which is also the last year of his contract.

4. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

Age: 33
2025-26 stats: 20 G, 36 A, 56 PTS, 72 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will have the chance to continue his reign as the longest-serving Oilers player with a full no-movement clause through the 2028-29 season.

5. Evan Bouchard

Age: 26
2025-26 stats: 21 G, 74 A, 95 PTS, 82 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause beginning 2027

Evan Bouchard’s no-movement clause comes into effect for the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.

6. Mattias Ekholm

Age: 36
2025-26 stats: 6 G, 35 A, 41 PTS, 82 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause

Mattias Ekholm seems to love playing in Edmonton, and a full no-movement clause that runs through the 2028-29 season can keep him in the Alberta capital if he wants.

7. Jake Walman

Age: 30
2025-26 stats: 8 G, 12 A, 20 PTS, 53 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause and modified no-trade clause

Jake Walman cashed in with the Oilers last summer and got plenty of trade protection with it. His no-movement clause remains in effect until June 16, 2030, before it turns into a 15-team no-trade list through the 2032-33 season.

8. Jason Dickinson

Age: 31
2025-26 stats: 7 G, 10 A, 17 PTS, 64 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause and modified no-trade clause

The Oilers liked what they saw from Jason Dickinson this past season and gave him a no-movement clause that runs until June 15, 2029. Afterwards, it will revert to a modified no-trade clause that includes a 16-team trade list that will be active through the 2030-31 season.

9. Connor Murphy

Age: 33
2025-26 stats: 5 G, 12 A, 17 PTS, 80 GP
Trade protection: No-movement clause and modified no-trade clause

Connor Murphy was given the exact same trade protection as Dickinson. A no-movement clause until June 15, 2029, where it will then revert to a modified no-trade clause with a 16-team trade list through the 2030-31 season.

10. Ryan Shea

Age: 29
2025-26 stats: 6 G, 29 A, 35 PTS
Trade protection: No-trade clause and modified no-trade clause

Ryan Shea has a full no-trade clause through the first two years of his contract. That will change to a modified no-trade clause starting in 2028-29, which will include a 10-team no-trade list through the 2030-31 season.

11. Trent Frederic

Age: 28
2025-26 stats: 4 G, 3 A, 7 PTS, 74 GP
Trade protection: No-move clause and modified no-trade clause

Trent Frederic’s max-term deal holds a no-move clause through the 2028-29 season. That will turn into a modified no-trade clause with a 10-team trade list for the 2029-30 and 2030-31 seasons, before reverting to a 20-team trade list for the final two years of his deal in 2031-32 and 2032-2033.

12. Tristan Jarry

Age: 31
2025-26 stats: 18-9-3, .883 SV%, -4.1 GSAx
Trade protection: Modified no-trade clause

Tristan Jarry has a modified no-trade clause that includes a 12-team no-trade list for each of the next two seasons.

13. Frederik Andersen

Age: 36

Trade protection: No-movement clause and modified no-trade clause

Frederik Andersen’s one-year deal with the Oilers includes a no-movement clause, as well as a modified no-trade clause with a 15-team no-trade list.

14. Vasily Podkolzin

Age: 25
2025-26 stats: 19 G, 18 A, 37 PTS, 82 GP
Trade protection: Modified no-trade clause beginning in 2028

The modified no-trade clause in Vasily Podkolzin’s contract doesn’t kick in until the 2028-29 season, which includes a 10-team no-trade list.

15. Mattias Janmark

Age: 33
2025-26 stats: 1 G, 7 A, 8 PTS, 43 GP
Trade protection: Modified no-trade clause

Mattias Janmark is entering the final year of his contract with a modified no-trade clause that includes a 10-team no-trade list.
