The Edmonton Oilers are giving fans a chance to see the team up close at Rogers Place in a free event later this month.
With the new NHL season quickly approaching and training camp set to open in just a few weeks, the Oilers announced a Welcome Back Hockey Weekend in the Ice District. The event will run on the weekend of Sept. 20 and 21.
The first day of the weekend will see the return of the team’s annual Fan Day, which is set to include a free-to-attend practice inside Rogers Place, a massive locker room sale, as well as plenty of family-friendly activities in the Ice District plaza.
Fan Day will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. MDT on Sept. 21, with the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings following up with their home opener later in the day.

Edmonton Oilers
It doesn’t appear that there will be much to do on the second day of that weekend, apart from the Oilers kicking off their preseason schedule with a split-squad game against the Calgary Flames being held at Rogers Place that night.
This won’t be the first time that Oilers fans will get a chance to pack into Rogers Place this month. The team announced earlier this week that they will be hosting a rookie game at the rink against the Flames on Sept. 12, with tickets starting at just $20.
On top of all the hockey-related activities happening in downtown Edmonton, the Oilers also acknowledged that the city’s annual Oktoberfest festivities will also be taking over the Ice District at the same time, over in the Fan Park west of the arena.
While nothing has been confirmed by the team, this would be the ideal kind of event to potentially unveil the team’s rumoured third jersey. NHL teams typically like to show off new threads to the fanbase at events like this one.
Even if there is no jersey reveal, this may be the best opportunity a lot of fans will get to see their hockey heroes up close this season. The only thing that could make the weekend any better would be Connor McDavid signing an extension with the team.
