Oilers fans think American announcer sounded biased against Edmonton

An American broadcaster was apparently thrilled with the Anaheim Ducks’ 6-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.

The Ducks were able to square the series up at one apiece, and while those in Edmonton were not at all happy, the American broadcast team working for TNT seemingly felt different.

Calling last night’s game for TNT was Randy Hahn, who typically serves as the play-by-play announcer for the San Jose Sharks. Despite the Sharks and Ducks being major rivals, Hahn seemed quite excited to see them pull out a victory in Game 2. His enthusiasm was significantly higher when the Oilers were scored on as opposed to when they found the back of the net.

“It’s even funnier [because] he’s the Sharks announcer. Why doesn’t he hate the Ducks,” one user asked on X.

The calls had some Oilers fans feeling like everyone outside of Edmonton is strongly rooting against them.

“Can someone please explain the league wide hatred of the oilers? If they won the last 2 cups, i could at least get that,” an Oilers fan wrote.

In defence of Hahn, he is announcing the games on an American network, which is likely why he’s seemingly more excited about the Ducks’ goals.

“Last I checked, he is (for this game) employed by TNT, an American broadcast, and he’s one of the best to do it,” another X user wrote. “Don’t throw shade at an exceptional broadcaster broadcasting.”

Many were also quick to point out that Jack Michaels, who does Oilers play-by-play on Sportsnet, seems to be equally biased the other way around.

“Jack Michaels must hate every single team then if we’re using your logic lmao,” one fan tweeted.

While this is all harmless fun on both ends, those who aren’t rooting for the Oilers may find the TNT broadcast call of this series to be more entertaining. There will likely be plenty more bias shown both ways, depending on which broadcast you tune into for the remainder of the series.
