Edmonton Oilers coach gives good-news injury update on Connor Ingram

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Connor Ingram appears to be no worse for wear after a scary incident earlier this week.

The veteran goaltender was hit hard by Nathan MacKinnon against the Colorado Avalanche this past Tuesday and was forced to leave the game with a bloody gash on his forehead. MacKinnon was given a major penalty and ejected from the game, while Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that a concussion spotter pulled Ingram.

There was some concern that this could lead to an extended absence for Ingram, but those fears were put away by Knoblauch on Thursday morning. The Oilers coach gave an update on the goalie’s condition pre-game in Dallas.

“[Ingram] is good, he is healthy,” Knoblauch told reporters. “He is not starting tonight, but he is able to play if we needed him.”

Though Ingram is healthy, he will not be between the pipes against the Dallas Stars tonight. Instead, he will back up Tristan Jarry, who came on in relief of Ingram on Tuesday night and helped the Oilers close out an important victory.

It hasn’t been confirmed, but this should set up Ingram to make his next start on Friday against the St. Louis Blues, as it’s the second half of a back-to-back for Edmonton. Regardless, it does not sound like a Calvin Pickard call-up from the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors is coming anytime soon.

While there was good news for Ingram, Knoblauch had some less-than-stellar injury updates for defenceman Ty Emberson and forward Colton Dach. Both players left Tuesday’s game rather early with injuries, and it was confirmed that they have already gone back to the Alberta capital for further assessment.

“Those two went back to Edmonton,” Knoblauch said. “They are getting checked out. Hopefully it’s nothing too long-term.”

Adam Henrique will draw back into the lineup in Dach’s place, while Spencer Stastney will be reinserted for Emberson on the Oilers’ blueline.

Edmonton is looking to string together three straight wins for just the second time this season. The Oilers are looking to avoid being swept in the season series against the Stars, having lost the previous two matchups earlier this season.

Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. MDT.
