Edmonton Oilers will have a bizarre fan giveaway for home opener
The Edmonton Oilers are thinking outside the box for tonight’s home opener.
Over the past few years, the standard has been to give fans towels to wave to celebrate the first home game of the season. Often, the Oilers would arrange the towels on the seats to create the team’s logo over the course of the lower bowl of Rogers Place, but that won’t be the case this time around.
Instead, the team revealed on Tuesday morning that every fan in attendance for this year’s home opener will be gifted bright orange safety vests to wear during the game, which nod to Rogers Place celebrating 10 years since it was officially opened in September 2016.
“Get your high-vis on, Oil Country. Let’s get back to work,” the team shared on social media. “Tonight, we celebrate 10 years of Rogers Place as the Oilers open up their 2026-27 campaign.”

The Oilers included a photo of young Connor McDavid touring Rogers Place during the arena’s construction, where he was also wearing a high-vis vest. This might serve as inspiration for this unique giveaway. However, the vests that fans will be receiving don’t appear to include any of the bright yellow elements.
This wouldn’t be the first time that the Oilers dabbled in this kind of workwear, as players wore full oilfield uniforms complete with hardhats when arriving at Commonwealth Stadium for the 2023 Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames.

It also helps that orange is a primary colour for the Oilers, so an arena full of fans wearing these vests would make sense with the team’s brand identity. The Oilers also handed out orange rally towels during each of the last two playoff runs.
Excitement for the Oilers season has been building all summer, and the team made sure that Rogers Place will have a unique look to it as the team welcomes in the Vancouver Canucks.
