Edmonton Oilers ditch playoff pom poms and have something new for fans

The Edmonton Oilers are shaking up Rogers Place for their latest playoff run.

When fans pack into the rink for tonight’s Game 3 matchup against the LA Kings, they will no longer see the shiny orange pom poms that they may have gotten accustomed to during the playoffs.

Instead, fans will be greeted with an Oilers twist on more traditional playoff tradition as the team has set out orange rally towels on every seat for fans to wave. This marks a departure from the pom pom setup that the team has been using since their 2006 run to the Stanley Cup Final.

While the tradition of waving white towels has been adopted by multiple teams around the league, Edmonton wanted to put their signature touch with the iconic Oilers orange instead.

The change to a rally towel makes sense as the Oilers are looking to rally back from a 2-0 series deficit against the Kings.

This has been a change that a lot of Oilers fans have been wanting the team to make ever since the playoffs started to become a regular occurrence. There is no question that an arena full of fans waving their towels looks much more intimidating to the opposing teams than the previous pom pom setup.

Combine that with Edmonton’s top-tier playoff atmosphere, and suddenly Rogers Place may be the hardest building for opposing teams to play in across the NHL.

The Oilers may be down in their opening round series, but Oil Country will be doing all they can to help their team get back into it, and they will look good doing so.
