Edmonton Oilers reveal 55-player training camp roster

Sep 16 2025, 8:39 pm

The Edmonton Oilers will open training camp on Wednesday morning, and we now know every player who will be participating.

It’s going to be a different-looking Oilers club as compared to last year’s, with an influx of young talent expected to push for spots on the roster. Multiple veterans moved on to different teams over the summer, opening up several spots for some new faces to challenge for.

Edmonton already announced the first batch of cuts just days before camp opened, releasing seven players from tryouts.

On Tuesday morning, the Oilers revealed the full roster of 55 players who will be at this year’s training camp. Of those players, there are 33 forwards, 16 defencemen, and six goalies who will do their best to make an impression.

Here is a rundown of all the players that fans should expect to see at camp in the coming  weeks, as well as their jersey numbers.

Returning Oilers

The biggest group at training camp this season will also be the most recognizable for Oilers fans. These are players who are coming back for another season in the Alberta capital after having already helped the team to the Stanley Cup Final last season.

A total of 18 players (nine forwards, seven defencemen, two goalies) are coming back for another season in Edmonton, most of whom are likely to hold onto NHL jobs.

Here is the complete list of returning Oilers:

  • Connor McDavid (#97)
  • Leon Draisaitl (#29)

  • Adam Henrique (#19)
  • Zach Hyman (#18)

  • Darnell Nurse (#25)
  • Troy Stecher (#51)
  • Jake Walman (#96)
  • Stuart Skinner (#74)
  • Calvin Pickard (#30)

New NHL arrivals

The Oilers lost a couple of key veteran players over the course of the offseason, which means that new players were acquired to help fill some of those holes.

GM Stan Bowman acquired three players (three forwards) this summer who will likely appear in more than a few NHL games this upcoming season:

  • Isaac Howard (#53)
  • Andrew Mangiapane (#88)
  • Curtis Lazar (#20)

NHL hopefuls

The second largest group at this year’s training camp will be players battling for NHL spots.

This will include both European and college free agents signed by the Oilers last season, as well as a few other players who are looking to make the jump from the AHL to the NHL this upcoming season.

There are 13 players (nine forwards and four defencemen) in this category:

  • Matt Savoie (#22)
  • James Hamblin (#52)
  • Quinn Hutson (#28)
  • Roby Jarventie (#15)
  • Max Jones (#46)
  • Viljami Marjala (#57)
  • Noah Philp (#48)
  • Josh Samanski (#81)
  • David Tomasek (#86)
  • Josh Brown (#44)
  • Damien Carfagna (#73)
  • Atro Leppanen (#37)
  • Alec Regula (#75)

AHL players

As is usual in training camp, a lot of players destined to play in the AHL are also attending.

These players are a mix of veterans and younger players still trying to put together a productive season in the league below the NHL. There is always a chance they could surprise and stick around camp longer than expected, but they are likely to spend the majority of the upcoming season with the Bakersfield Condors or even down in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets.

This year will feature 12 players (six forward, four defencemen, two goalies) in that category:

  • Seth Griffith (#39)
  • Jayden Grubbe (#47)
  • Matvey Petrov (#43)
  • Rem Pitlick (#16)
  • Rhett Pitlick (#68)
  • James Stefan (#70)
  • Cam Dineen (#55)
  • Mason Millman (#78)
  • Luke Prokop (#77)
  • Riley Stillman (#61)
  • Matt Tomkins (#90)
  • Connor Ungar (#32)

Work-in-progress prospects

The last section of players that Oilers fans will see at camp is a smattering of prospects.

This will include Oilers draft picks who will either be spending the season with their junior team or will be making the jump to play in their first professional season. Like the section above, there is always a chance someone surprises in this group, but it’s likely this will be a developmental season for these players.

Nine young players (six forwards, one defenceman, two goalies) will look to catch the eye of the Oilers at this year’s training camp:

  • Connor Clattenburg (#64)
  • Matt Copponi (#45)
  • Tommy Lafreniere (#54)
  • David Lewandowski (#38)
  • William Nicholl (#56)
  • Brady Stonehouse (#41)
  • Beau Akey (#82)
  • Nathaniel Day (#40)
  • Samuel Jonsson (#34)
