Inspiring Golden Retriever loses 100 pounds, becomes therapy dog

A Golden Retriever from Edmonton who was going to be euthanized underwent an amazing transformation thanks to a loving foster owner.

Kai was taken to the vet’s office by his previous owners at 173 pounds to be put down; instead, he was fostered by Pam Heggie, a registered nurse who helped get him fit and healthy enough to enjoy his life again.

She shared Kai’s journey on Facebook, complete with motivational messages from the dog himself.

Kai still has to wear knee braces when he plays in the dog park, because his joints were damaged from carrying the extra weight for so long.

But mostly Kai is a happy and affectionate pup. He’s also recently become a certified therapy dog ā€” to give people even more warm fuzzy feelings.
