Edmonton warns people to stay away from banks of North Saskatchewan River

The City of Edmonton is has warned residents about dangerous rising water levels on the Saskatchewan river, asking people to stay away for their own safety.

Water levels are expected to increase up to three metres over the course of the weekend, and walking trails and boat launches could be submerged.

The water is rising quickly in part because of rainfall over the last few days, the City said in a news release. 

Residents are asked to stay out of the river and away from its bank. Boats and dogs also should not be go in the water.

The City also reminded residents to call 911 if they see a person or animal in need of rescue on the water.
