Four deaths, 33 new cases of coronavirus in Alberta

In a Thursday press conference, Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the province has seen 33 new known cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

This brings the province’s known total to 6,768.

She noted that there have been four deaths related to coronavirus over the past 24 hours; a man in his 70s, a woman and a man in their 80s, and a woman in her 90s. All four deaths were residents in continuing care centres in Calgary.

This brings the province’s total death count to 132.

Hinshaw also said there are currently 59 cases in hospital with six in ICU, fewer than seen at the end of last week.

Today’s 33 new cases were detected as a result of 4,017 tests being carried out over the past 24 hours.

As for the province’s largest outbreaks, the Cargill meatpacking plant only has five remaining active cases and 943 recovered, and the JBS plant has 10 remaining cases and 640 recovered.

There are currently 926 active cases of coronavirus throughout Alberta.
