Connor McDavid is one of the NHL’s very best postseason scorers, despite having less than 100 playoff games under his belt.
The Edmonton Oilers captain has appeared in 92 playoff games throughout his career, which is far from the active NHL leaders, but has managed to put up an incredible 148 points in that span.
McDavid may rank lower in postseason games played, but he ranks fifth in career playoff points among active players, trailing only legacy players like Brad Marchand (155), Nikita Kucherov (171), Evgeni Malkin (180), and Sidney Crosby (201).
All those players have over 150 playoff games to their name.
McDavid being 5th on this list with just 92 games played is PURE INSANITY 😱🔥 pic.twitter.com/jlQmKYQXS7

He ranks ahead of some notable heavy-hitters, including the NHL’s all-time goals leader, Alexander Ovechkin, the noted clutch-playoff player Patrick Kane, and teammate Corey Perry, who has played in an incredible 233 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Leon Draisaitl isn’t far behind either, as he ranks ninth amongst active players with 137 points in 92 playoff games. The only thing that sets McDavid and Draisaitl apart is that every other player on that list has won a Stanley Cup.
That is not for a lack of trying, as the Oilers came within a single win of a Stanley Cup championship last season and are back in the Final again this season.
There is a chance that both players continue to climb up those leaderboards this season, as McDavid is just seven points back of Marchand, while Draisaitl is a single point behind Kane.
The incredible Oilers duo are not only among the very best active playoff players, but they are also making NHL history in the process. Only Wayne Gretzky’s 1.837 points-per-game rate ranks higher than McDavid’s 1.609. Draisaitl is fifth all-time with a 1.489 rate.
There are some teams around the league who have their superstars fade away in big games, but that has not been the case for the Oilers over the past decade.
