Family-owned ice cream shop in Edmonton to close its doors this month

Little Bon Bon Ice Cream announced recently that it would be closing this September after two years of serving unique flavours to Edmonton’s Chinatown.

Created by the Wong family (also the creators of Yelo’d) in 2024, Little Bon Bon Ice Cream has brought vibrancy to the Chinatown district for over two years. With its fun seasonal flavours like Peach Milk Tea and Black Sesame Pistachio, there was always something to look forward to.

Recently, though, the family-owned ice cream shop made a statement, telling the community that it’d be closing its doors permanently.

“Maybe we were a couple of decades behind, or maybe we were a couple of decades ahead. Whatever it was, Little Bon Bon was a lovely idea. It just didn’t work out as we dreamed,” wrote the team on Instagram.

In the announcement post, the Wongs stated that the shop itself will stay open until the end of September, but it may potentially close sooner if all the ice cream is sold out.

“We’ll still be holding on to what Little Bon Bon could be. So maybe one day, in another place or another time, you’ll see our Little Bon Bon again,” reads the team’s post on Instagram.

If you’re still going to be craving some of the delicious flavours this shop offered, don’t worry. The family said in the comments that Little Bon Bon flavours could potentially make it into the rotation at their Yelo’d locations.

“Thank you, Chinatown. And a very special thank you to our staff, Jay, Kris, Maddie, Sierra, and Vivian, for every scoop, every shift and all the love you gave this little shop,” finishes the family’s post. “We’re really glad we tried.”
