If you’re looking for a neighbourly spot to settle down, a small city south of Edmonton has just been recognized as one of the most neighbourly communities in the province.
World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released its list of the six most neighbourly towns in Alberta, and Lacombe, just over an hour south of YEG, made the cut.
Lacombe was highlighted for its architecture, longstanding agricultural heritage, and growing reputation as a culinary destination.
The city of just over 13,000 was noted for its efforts to maintain its historic charm while supporting its growing, modern industries. That can be seen in the picturesque town centre, where the brick buildings, including the Flatiron Building, are some of Alberta’s best examples of Edwardian Revivalist architecture.

The article also points to the work of the Lacombe & District Historical Society, which operates both the Michener House Museum and the Blacksmith Shop Museum, helping to preserve and interpret the area’s early development.
On the culinary side, World Atlas notes that Lacombe’s food culture has been drawing more attention in recent years. Farm-to-table dining is increasingly prominent, with restaurants leaning heavily on locally sourced ingredients from the surrounding agricultural region. Blindman Brewing is also mentioned as a leader in Alberta’s craft beer scene.
In addition, Gull Lake is a short drive west and is one of the few lakes in central Alberta suitable for boating and fishing, while its eastern shore is home to Gull Lake Honey Company, known for its small-batch, locally produced specialty goods.
And if that’s not a reason for you to put Lacombe on your radar, perhaps the largest fishing lure in the world is enough to reel you in.
The other Alberta communities that made the most neighbourly towns list include Jasper, Waterton, and Fort Macleod.
