Edmonton is getting a new modern Japanese coffee shop this fall

Edmonton is welcoming a new Japanese-inspired coffee shop into Terwilligar this fall.

Kissa10 is going to be one of the newest coffee shops in the city, currently running pop-ups in anticipation of its opening this November.

Its name, Kissa10, pays respect to where Japanese coffee culture began.

Owners Lana and Jeff fell in love with the kissaten tucked away in Japanese street corners, and are sharing their love with the rest of Edmonton.

A kissaten translates directly to “tea-drinking shop.” Although tea is in the name, coffee is what makes these spaces so special, as they are at the root of Japanese coffee culture.

These shops are known for having a quiet, intimate atmosphere, described as “where time slows down.” With only a couple of seats, one barista, and incredible coffee, these spots whisk customers away with brand new sensations.

Kissa10 held its first pop-up event this August, partnering with Hello Mochi for a perfect first taste. Some of the beverages offered were its Coffee Jelly Matcha Latte and its Yuzu Espresso Tonic, alongside the delicious donuts from its partner.

The pop-up was held out of its current location in Terwilligar Towne, where more pop-ups will be held ahead of its opening, which is slated for November, according to Google.

The exact date for opening has not been announced yet, but it will be announced on Kissa10’s Instagram and TikTok, alongside the upcoming pop-up dates, as they come along.
