Vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton is selling its beloved 30-year-old pho recipe
There’s a Vietnamese restaurant you know and love, and it’s selling its pho recipe.
King Noodle House has been a staple in the Edmonton community since 1995, and since then, it has only grown into one of the best hole-in-the-wall family-owned restaurants in the city.
This November, the family behind the restaurant announced they’d be selling the famed pho recipe, which has been in their family for decades.
“Many have asked over the years, and we’ve said no,” say the owners, the Hoangs. “But we’re finally ready.”

“We have been serving our authentic, Vietnamese noodle soup out of our small, family-run restaurant in Edmonton, Alberta, for 30 years (since 1995). But our soup recipe goes back much farther than that, originating in the 1920s, in the birthplace of pho — Hanoi in Northern Vietnam,” says the Hoangs on Instagram.
The reason for this decision lies in the Hoangs’ desire to retire, and that their children are not ready to take over. They’ve instead decided to share the love and sell the recipe to ensure the family legacy lives on.
As for purchasing the recipe, there are a few conditions.
“You don’t need to live or operate in Edmonton to purchase the recipe; however, you will need to arrange to be here to complete a training program as part of the agreement.”
Those interested can fill out a form at King Noodle House’s website or send email inquiries. They are also selling their building and business, although those are separate agreements.
There’s still good news for fans of the restaurant; this doesn’t mean the end!
The spot will remain open until the Hoangs retire, as selling the recipe doesn’t change its operation. Community members are invited to support the restaurant in Chinatown until their retirement.
It’s open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., so check it out before the Hoangs retire!
