The Edmonton Oilers fan base is a passionate bunch, as evidenced by the loud atmosphere at Rogers Place throughout this current playoff run.
While the noise they are bringing is fantastic, some fans have taken their passion too far. For whatever reason, it has seemingly become a common theme for Oilers fans to engage in full-on fistfights with one another, whether in the arena itself or the Moss Pit.
Many people, including Oilers players themselves, have noticed the chaos going on during and after games. Zach Hyman confirmed just that in what was a pretty funny discussion on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast.
“Ya, we’ve seen it, it’s wild,” said a grinning Hyman. “Lots of passion in this city. … If you want to come watch the best hockey, there’s no better place.”

Though there haven’t seemed to be as many fights amongst Oilers fans as of late, there were a ton through the first two rounds versus the LA Kings and Vegas Golden Knights. The organization is aware of them, but said in a statement to Daily Hive that they have been doing everything they can to keep things safe and fun for all fans.
“Outside of a few isolated incidents, the vast majority of the playoff celebrations across ICE District have been safe, fun, exciting and without incident,” the OEG Sports & Entertainment group said.
“The safety and security of fans and patrons in ICE District is our top priority and we have developed strong, ongoing operational plans in coordination with our partners at the City of Edmonton, theĀ EdmontonĀ PoliceĀ Service, security providers and our staff, and implemented industry practices in event design and operations, security technology, training, infrastructure, and traffic and crowd management to assist in the safety and comfort of all fans, patrons and residents in ICE District during the playoffs.ā
While the fighting has decreased, the passion throughout Edmonton remains. The entire city was abuzz last night after a 4-3 overtime win over the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, and will continue to be in a frenzy over the next few weeks.
