You won’t find tonight’s Edmonton Oilers vs. Detroit Red Wings game on the TV guide.
Sportsnet introduced a new format for select Monday night NHL games this season, which will move the broadcast off traditional TV in favour of an exclusive broadcast on its streaming service counterpart, Sportsnet+.
That means that tonight’s game will not be available in its usual spot on Sportsnet West or Sportsnet Oilers. Fans will need a Sportsnet+ subscription to tune in.
This will be the first of nine Oilers “Monday Night Hockey” games this season that will be streamed exclusively on Sportsnet+.

Usually, Sportsnet TV subscribers would be able to watch games on Sportsnet+ for no additional cost using their provider login, but that won’t be the case for tonight’s game. Instead, those TV subscribers will need to fork out an additional $12.99/month to access the streaming-only content.
The only exception to this is for fans who are Rogers Xfinity TV customers with Sportsnet, who will be able to access Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet+ for free.
Those who aren’t Sportsnet TV subscribers will need to get a Sportsnet+ membership, which costs $34.99 per month or $269.99 per year.
The following Oilers games will also be featured exclusively on Sportsnet+ this season:
- Nov. 9 vs. New York Rangers
- Dec. 14 vs. Montreal Canadiens
- Dec. 28 vs. Washington Capitals
- Jan. 11 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
- Feb. 22 vs. Ottawa Senators
- Mar. 1 vs. Chicago Blackhawks
- Mar. 15 vs. Colorado Avalanche
- Apr. 11 vs. Calgary Flames
While this may be a hassle for fans trying to watch the game, Sportsnet told Offside that the network is actively working with other Canadian distribution partners to give their TV subscribers additional options to access Sportsnet+ content.
Monday night games won’t be the only time that Oilers fans will have to look to streaming to catch all the action. A total of five Edmonton games will be featured on Prime Video this season, as part of the streaming giant’s “Wednesday Night Hockey,” starting with this week’s Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames.
Puck drop for the Oilers’ Monday Night Hockey debut is set for 7:30 p.m. MDT.
