Connor McDavid has continued to amaze hockey fans with his on-ice abilities.
You would think that a decade into his NHL career, fans would have seen just about all there is to see with McDavid, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The Edmonton Oilers captain has ramped up his offseason training with NHL training camp around the corner, and one clip has gone a bit viral on social media.
McDavid has been training with Gary Roberts alongside a handful of NHL players, including teammates Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman. A clip posted to the Gary Roberts’ Performance Instagram page included a highlight reel of players training.
The last clip in the reel shows McDavid winding up and gaining speed with some otherworldly crossovers before taking a pass in stride and going in for a shot on the goaltenders.
It goes to show that people are still in awe of McDavid’s skill.

Nobody is shocked that McDavid is a fast player. That has been common knowledge all the way back before he played a single NHL game. What is captivating so many fans is his footwork on the crossovers and how much speed he is able to generate in just a few strides.
Fans did not hold back their astonishment when watching the Oilers captain perfect his craft.
“Phenomenal footwork at that speed WHEW,” one impressed fan wrote.

It’s the effortless switch to forward that really gets me. You barely even notice he made the transition it is so smooth.

“He looks like he’s using less than half of that skate edge to generate that kind of speed. Unreal,” said a fan on X.
