Edmonton to see a blast of heat and a 29-degree temperature change soon

Edmonton may have felt a bit like a frozen wonderland this February, but a big temperature change is on its way with some balmy daytime highs.

Our daytime highs and overnight lows may have been well below normal over the past little while; however, Daily Hive recently chatted with a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and it seems like we are on the cusp of a big weather change.

Before we get excited about being able to go outside without seriously bundling up, start scouring through your favourite streaming service right now to prepare for this upcoming weekend, because you won’t want to be outside for too long with a daytime high of -18°C on Saturday, -20°C on Sunday, and the chilliest daytime high of the forecast lands on Family Day Monday with -24°C.

YEG is set to stay well below the freezing mark all the way until the middle of next week, but things take a turn for the warmer come Wednesday with a daytime high of -8°C and an overnight low of -18°C. It’s pretty wild that we are excited about an overnight low below the -20°C mark!

Thursday looks like a total temperature treat for us in Edmonton, with a daytime high of a dazzling 1°C and a mix of sun and cloud.

When you do the math between Monday’s overnight low of -28°C and Thursday’s daytime high, it’s a roller coaster with a difference of 29 degrees. Fingers crossed that the warmer temperatures stick around and we are done with brisk cold snaps for the rest of winter!
