An Edmonton pizza chain has enlisted the help of one of the city’s most beloved sportscasters.
Gene Principe, who has been a fixture on Edmonton Oilers broadcasts for over three decades now, has officially teamed up with Pizza 73 on a new special. This will be the second time the local chain has collaborated with someone involved with the Oilers in the span of the year, with ex-Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner doing so last season.
The special, which is being dubbed “The Principe Recipe,” is full of pun-inspired ingredients, something that has become a staple of Principe’s on-air persona. People ordering the special can expect a large two-topping pizza with “Jala-Gene-o peppers and Princi-pepperoni” for a total of $13.75.
“Not to be cheesy, but as a born-and-raised Edmontonian, Pizza 73 has always been part of my game-day routine,ā said Principe in a press release. āHaving my name on the menu is pretty special, and knowing fans will enjoy the Principe Recipe while cheering on the Oilers is a real win.”
Oilers fans should be familiar with Pizza 73, as they are the official pizza of the team and sell food inside Rogers Place. The decision to choose Principe as the face of this new promotion was an easy one, according to Pizza 73 marketing director Adam Williamson.
āGene has been a staple of Edmonton’s hockey community for years,ā said Williamson. āWe wanted to create something fun that reflects his personality and gives fans a ‘slice of Gene’ to enjoy.ā
The special will launch early next month and will include Principe doing a special in-store meet-and-greet event at its 16 Westway Road, Spruce Grove location on March 29. An exclusive giveaway will be a part of the event, and fans will have the opportunity to take their photo with the legendary Oilers broadcaster as well.
The first 50 people to attend the event will also receive a free personal pizza.
