Edmonton senior home responds to Kings' harmonica anthem with kazoo rendition

An Edmonton senior home has gotten into the fun of the ongoing first-round series between the Oilers and LA Kings.

Much was made about the Kings’ anthem for the opening game of the series, as they had a harmonica rendition of the Star Spengled Banner performed by senior citizens from the Koreatown Senior and Community Center.

The rather unusual anthem quickly blew up across social media, and was considered good luck for the Kings after they were able to win Game 1 by a 6-5 final. As a result, the Kings chose to bring them back for Game 2, and were able to win once again by a final of 6-2.

The harmonicas weren’t back in action for Game 3, as the series returned to Rogers Place in Edmonton. While the Oilers didn’t go a similar route for the anthems, a seniors home at Everitt Gardens Retirement Residence did their own rendition with kazoos.

The kazoo-styled anthem may have proven to be the Oilers’ good-luck charm, as they were able to come out on top of what felt like a must-win game, defeating the Kings by a 7-4 final.

The Oilers now trail this series 2-1, and will be looking to even things up on home ice Sunday night. Based on Friday’s outcome, fans should be hoping, and perhaps expecting, that the folks at Everitt Gardens Retirement Residence will once again have their own anthem going in hopes of it providing good luck for a second-straight outing.
