Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid is generally a man of few words when speaking with reporters.
The 28-year-old tends to keep things in-house, not wanting to give the media any quotes that could cause distractions for himself or his teammates. Other times, he leaves on-ice plays up for debate in order to keep opposing teams guessing. On Friday morning, we saw just that on display.
McDavid played a huge role in the Oilers’ Game 1 victory over the Florida Panthers, registering two assists in the 4-3 overtime victory. His first assist of the night was the most talked about, as he fed a beautiful pass onto the tape of Mattias Ekholm, who made no mistake, tying the game at three apiece.

After the game was finished, however, the debate began on whether the pass was actually meant for Ekholm or Evander Kane, who was driving the net on the play. McDavid was asked about it on Friday, but refused to confirm who he was looking for with the pass.
“I won’t say,” said a smiling McDavid. “All that matters is that it ended up where it needed to be, and we scored.”
That goal helped erase what was a two-goal deficit for the Oilers. Late in overtime, it was McDavid coming up with another beautiful assist, this one to Leon Draisaitl, who buried his second overtime winner of the playoffs.

The Oilers’ dynamic duo each had a pair of points in the win, and will be looking for more of the same on Friday night as they look to take a 2-0 series lead into Florida for Game 3 on Sunday.
