As we look ahead to the warm and sunny days of summer in Edmonton, we’re dreaming up all of the great ways to spend time outdoors, including exploring our own backyard.

From bustling urban locations to tranquil but charming spots in the suburbs, here are six Edmonton neighbourhoods we think are worth exploring this summer.

Forest Heights

We love to get outdoors as much as possible in the summer, which is why we have our eye on Forest Heights. As the name implies, there is plenty of tree cover with easy access to the River Valley around these parts, and we love the look of that gorgeous tree canopy over the cozy homes of this community.

Ritchie

With spots like Ritchie Market and Happy Beer Street only continuing to blossom, it looks to be another great summer for the charming inner-city community of Ritchie. This neighbourhood is full of schools, tree-lined streets, historic homes, and just enough density to feel lively. On top of that, its close access to shopping and transit is a bonus.

Alberta Avenue

We love the charming, historic homes and tight-knit community feel of Alberta Avenue. Plus, its proximity to festivals like the Kaliedo Family Arts Festival is a bonus. With so many great restaurants, cafes, and community projects, it’s worth a summer stroll!

Highlands

Highlands is a unique part of Edmonton and one neighbourhood we’d love to move to this summer. It has so much charm, with its historic buildings, easy access to the river valley, and beautiful homes like the Magrath Mansion. The tree-lined streets make it feel extra cozy, and there are so many great local restaurants and shops to explore.

Located just to the west of downtown is the lively community of wîhkwêntôwin, which, no matter the season, is always a treat to explore. With a densely populated area and many high-rise residential buildings, this vibrant neighbourhood is within walking distance of shopping, dining, and stunning river valley views along the Victoria Promenade.

Laurier Heights

You can bet you’ll have a lovely summer stroll around Laurier Heights. The neighbourhood has fantastic river valley trails, beautiful views of downtown, and streets lined with impressive homes. You might even bump into an Oiler along the way, or bring the pooch and spend some time at the dog park in Buena Vista Park. Either way, it just feels good to get outside and enjoy it.
