It’s been a volatile week weather-wise in Edmonton, and as the city scrapes itself off from last night’s flash freeze, forecasters say there’s a whole lot more snow on the way.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a snowfall warning for Edmonton early Tuesday morning, saying 10 to 20 centimetres is expected by Wednesday evening.
A heavy band of snow is set to develop on Wednesday morning, stretching from northwestern into central Alberta, with periods of heavy snowfall and rapid accumulation. The snow is expected to taper off from northwest to southeast on Wednesday afternoon, with heavier snow ending in the Edmonton area by the evening.
“Roads and walkways may be very difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” warns ECCC, adding to take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.

Looking at the rest of this week’s forecast, there doesn’t seem to be much relief from the wintry weather. While Thursday is expected to bring a mild, brief break with a sunny high of -9°C, the snow will return by the evening alongside a low of -18°C.
By the weekend, temperatures could plunge even further, with an overnight low near -31°C Saturday night and a daytime high of just -24°C.
